I recently started hosting at www.voscast.com, as they have unlimited SHOUTcast hosting for only $6.95 a month.
It seems to be a pretty good site. I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with them though.

I just started hosting there yesterday, so I guess I'll see how they work out =]

I would be skeptical about anything claiming to give you unlimited amounts of anything. They are probably betting that most of their client base sees no listeners. It doesn't sound like anything that could be sustained without there being some quality issues. Good luck with it anyway. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

The funny thing of it all is that the "unlimited concept" simply can't exist; that's called physics! There's always a limit.

Let's take the biggest platforms, running with huge Gbps backbones and good peerings...there will always be limits ! The best you can do is set up some load balancing architectures with actual good routers,...but please don't let people think they'll get unlimitted bandwidth cos' it's simply does NOT exist (it can't!)...what's more with offers like : "unlimitted concurrent listeners @ xxxkbps, for...3 bucks per year" ! man...Lol Stop doing that; it ain't good for the Streaming Industry!

One thing someone/a company should take good care of would be :

1 - will my Station (radio or TV) be on an unmeterred pack or not? If so, what will the monthly IP traffic limit be???

2 - you say I could host xxx slots @ yyy kbps...That's cool! But could I get that night and day??? Could you give me some guarantees about the Bandwidth's load?

3 - While we're at it...Could you tell me more about the Bandwidth your network uses to host people/companies? Where does it come from exactly?

4 - does your company or do you use freaky softwares like Centova or Castcontrols to provide people with your offers? If so, how long have you been in the business???

5 - is it possible to get...a contract? LOL

I'll attempt to quickly go through an answer all the questions and concerns that have been posted in this thread.

First off, all our current servers are hosted in Global Switch, on high-performance servers. All of our servers are monitored 24/7 by external services, and we never put more customers on a server than the server can handle. In order to maintain quality, our servers are hooked up to (true) 100Mbps connections. We ensure that our clients have the resources and bandwidth they need.

Secondly, we use a 100% custom-built (in-house) control panel and monitoring services. Everything you see on our website has been built by our amazing team of developers, including the free scripts that we offer.

Additionally, we do not have any hidden fees or terms. We just want to do our best at providing a great service, and enabling users to stream worry-free.

My words were not oriented against any particular shoutcast hosting company; those ones were just general thoughts about aspects which have to be taken into account if people need some true info about the Streaming Industry.

Once again, the unlimited traffic simply doesn't exist and should be banned from all websites; one day people will finally get the catch before subscribing to anything (well,...I DO hope so ).

Concerning Vocast (I just visited the site); good looking one but I'd like to know if there's somekindda way to get actual address and phone/fax number? This is something which may reassure any eventual customer. What do you say?

Do you provide customers with contracts (what actually happens for instance, when your happens to fail? Do you payback with a prorate formula or so? What's the actual guarantee in your service?

If you developed your own tools, that's truly great; therefore, I guess that your automatic PayPal server setup doesn't have nothing to do with any kind of customization of either Centova or Castcontrol with Whmc, right?

Last,...GlobalSwitch (which I also have two contracts with); that's a good point for your company. Could you tell us more about your direct partners and actual bandwidth routes? Are you a reseller or do you have specific peerings and/or black optical fiber in your country?
